With the original model gone, I did my best to resurrect her as faithfully as possible.

Your Scratch Built models / Studio Scale TOS Enterprise

This is my studio scale replica of the 33 inch TOS Enterprise. I've spent the last 12 years researching and reverse engineering plans of this version of the Enterprise and started in on this build back in 2014.

Besides wanting to try to build something that no one had attempted before, there was the additional motivating factor of having always wanted the model of the Enterprise sitting on the table in Requiem for Methuselah. As much as I love the 11 foot model, the shapes are different enough that it wasn't able to fill that spot. And because I wanted that model, I endeavored to replicate how the model looked in December 1968 when she was filmed for that episode. By that point the original model had been damaged and repaired, so my model shows many of the same scars the original had by then.

I put together a page on most of what I did to build the model (here) and I had watched a ton of Steve's videos to pick up pointers/techniques.

I have galleries of the model here and here, but here are a few shots of the model...

Wasn't sure how to create new post, but this reply function seems to work!

I realised before setting out that I had not seen a great deal of Motion Picture illustration that actually featured V-ger. Felt that was a good place to start this painting. Very important, I had the soundtrack on a loop throughout the whole process and thought back to all the stories you told me Steve.

Model Builds by Steve Neill / Revell Gato class submarine
« Last post by SteveNeill on July 02, 2019, 07:41:54 am »
This boat is over 10 years old now at least. It was given to me by my friend Wayne Frye. It was built mostly. I wanted to make it RC and used a gas cylinder from David Merriman I converted to RCABS which recycles the air from inside the cylinder back to a bladder in the blast tank pushing the water out, you go up, and taking the air back into the cylinder deflating the bladder and you go down. A reliable system that works better than gas IMO.

I is a smooth running boat that has never had a problem. The only real problem is the nearest lake I can run the boat at is and hour to 3 hour drive. Slowly but surely we are being kicked out of lakes running anything from sail boats to electric submarines.

These are old pictures from the days when I just finished her. I still have the boat and it's in great shape. And yes, submarines are called boats. Ask any bubblehead.

Both the VIIIC and the Gato are 1/72 scale showing you the size difference between the two WW2 boats. The Gato was much larger and considered then a luxury boat.

The WTC used in the boat. You can see the bladder in the blast tank.

Model Builds by Steve Neill / Skydiver

This was the most horrible model kit I have ever had to build. When I got it it was all warped polyester resin and bondo cast. All the surface details were sanded away and I had to scribe and put back every single panel line and vent.

It turned out well in the end and the client loved it.
