For successive castings, I do use store bought plastic chain from Ebay now. It saves building time.

Your Scratch Built models / Re: My Large Excelsior project..

This is an awesome project. Love the detail, and the layering with plastic sheeting. Great job! If you want to make larger sections, but keep the same detail, check out Hydrospan from the Compleat Sculptor.

The bumpy crater effect was done with the rounded top of one of the buttons for the star trek captain's chair. A shape was decided on, and then by poking the button part into the silicone clay, it creates a crater effect. The outer face is made from clear resin pigmented with green transluscent pigment, and the chain is made from polypropelene rod. I used a heat gun, and a chain link bending jig-( my own design)  to make the chain.

Your Scratch Built models / Superman: The Movie Kryptonite and stand
« on: June 19, 2019, 10:20:33 pm »
No one has this prop for sale, so, I decided to sculpt it myself. The green portion is clear resin with green pigment, and the meteorite body is solid black resin. A 9 volt battery comprises the power pack to light the white LEDs internally. The stand looks like superman's kryptonian symbol carved into the meteorite. All sculpted in silicone clay, and cast in resin including the chain. All built by hand.

Props / Re: A simple blaster

Always wanted one of those. Bought a kit on an ebay auction, and it was terrible. Still have it. Its a recast of a recast. Bubbles everywhere. Its not even round in back. Looks like the mold  was deformed, and the casting was rushed. I'll just have to sculpt it and cast it myself.
